Indiana Historical Society

Indianapolis, Indiana

Since 1830, the Indiana Historical Society has been Indiana's storyteller, connecting people to the past by collecting, preserving, and sharing the state's history. The Society maintains a research library and archives with premier resources on the history of Indiana and the Old Northwest, including the papers of Robert Dale Owen, one of the earliest supporters of the legislation that created the Smithsonian Institution. Its unique exhibition, the Indiana Experience, walks visitors through an immersive journey learning about the state of Indiana and its history, featuring three-dimensional reproductions of historical photographs, virtual tours, and a cabaret-style Cole Porter Room.
