The Old Governor's Mansion served as the residence for Georgia's chief executives for over 30 years. Its history encompasses the antebellum, Civil War, and early Reconstruction phases of Georgia's history. Currently the mansion is an historic house museum that cares for and exhibits items that illustrate the history of the site and its inhabitants during its tie as the official residence of Georgia’s governors. The Mansion became a Smithsonian Affiliate in 2015, and recently displayed artifacts from the election of 1860 on loan from the National Museum of American History.
