The Witte Museum promotes lifelong learning in natural history, science, and South Texas heritage. Its permanent exhibitions showcase dinosaur skeletons, cave drawings, wildlife dioramas, and even some live animals. Several reconstructed historic homes are also on view on the campus. Founded in 1926 by botanist Ellen Schulz, the museum has made great strides in expanding the facility, with new exhibition halls and activity space opening in 2016 and 2017. The Witte Museum participate in the Smithsonian Latino Center’s Young Ambassadors Program. In 2015, the Asian American Resource Center hosted the Smithsonian’s Asian Pacific American Center’s traveling exhibition I Want the Wide American Earth
