The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History collects, preserves, and interprets artifacts that shed light on the role of industry in the American South. The museum’s Glover Steam Locomotive Collection, along with other exhibitions and programs, highlights Civil War railroad history and the manufacture of steam locomotives during the post–Civil War industrialization of the South. The “General,” a celebrated Civil War locomotive is one of the Museum’s star attractions. The museum has hosted nine traveling exhibitions from the Smithsonian Institution and participated in Smithsonian magazine's annual Museum Day Live! event.
