The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, located along the banks of the Mississippi River, serves as the lead interpretive center for rivers in the United States. It highlights both the cultural and environmental aspects of rivers, with a mission to preserve the U.S. national river history as well as the rivers themselves. As a Smithsonian Affiliate, the museum highlights the historic species of the river through a collection of specimen from the National Museum of Natural History.
