Spanning 14 acres along the banks of the Mississippi River, the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium serves as a premier interpretive center for river history and interactive learning. Highlighting both the cultural and environmental aspects of rivers with a mission to preserve the U.S. national river history and rivers themselves, the River Museum is home to more than 250 species of animals and nearly 26,000 artifacts, telling diverse conservation stories of America's rivers and their connection to the oceans. As a Smithsonian Affiliate, the museum highlights the historic species of the river through a collection of specimen from the National Museum of Natural History.
