The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature interprets the region's scientific and cultural history from the Pleistocene to the present. It houses archaeological objects dating from the Paleo-Indian period to the arrival of the Spanish explorers in the early 1500s. The museum is also home to the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat. The 60,000-gallon habitat provides above and underwater viewing and rehabilitation of manatees in surroundings that replicate their natural habitat. The Planetarium at The Bishop is the premier astronomy education facility on Florida's west coast, where visitors can explore their universe through traditional live star talks and immersive virtual journeys to the far reaches of the cosmos.
