Affiliate Profile
Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) is a contemporary art museum that celebrates Black cultures, ignites challenging conversations, and inspires learning through the global lens of the African Diaspora. MoAD is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and plays a vital role in the local, national, and global arts community. Although the museum only became a Smithsonian Affiliate in 2014, the relationship with the Smithsonian began years earlier. MoAD staff participated in the inaugural three-day Museums Advancing Racial Justice Convening hosted at the Science Museum of Minnesota as part of the Smithsonian Institution's Our Shared Future: Reckoning with our Racial Past initiative and the Museum hosts Smithsonian Leadership for Change interns each summer.
