Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico

Santurce, Puerto Rico

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico promotes the knowledge and appreciation of Puerto Rico's visual arts, from the 17th century to the present. Its ongoing work includes the acquisition, documentation, interpretation, conservation, and exhibition of Puerto Rican art.  The permanent collection is housed in a historical building, whose neoclassical west wing used to be the Municipal Hospital.  Together with the modern east wing designed by Puerto Rican architects Otto Reyes and Luis Gutierrez, the building encompasses 24 exhibition galleries and a theater.  In addition, its activARTE gallery offers hands-on education programs for youths and families to explore creativity and get to know the work of Puerto Rican artists.  The Museo collaborates regularly with the Smithsonian.
