HistoryMiami tells the stories of Miami's communities, individuals, places and events. Founded in 1940 as the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, the AAM-accredited HistoryMiami serves as an umbrella organization for the Archives and Research Center and Library, South Florida Folklife Center, Education Center, Miami Circle and the Miami International Map Fair, in addition to presenting museum exhibitions and city tours. Collection hightlights include a rare folio edition of Audubon's "The Birds of America," and pre-Columbian to contemporary objects of daily life, the Cutler Fossil Site dating humans in South Florida to 8,000 BCE, early Seminole artifacts and other archaeological material.
