The Georgia Aquarium houses more than 100,000 animals. Among its notable specimens are young whale sharks, beluga whales, bottlenose dolphins, and manta rays. The Aquarium collaborates with Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, and the University of Georgia on research and conservation projects, as well as educational programs, sharing the common goals to save endangered species and preserve biodiversity. The Aquarium has had several specimens, including a giant squid, on loan from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.
