The Frank H. McClung Museum features collections in anthropology, archaeology, material and visual culture, and natural history. As part of the University Tennessee, Knoxville, it also supports academic scholarship and provides education programming. Permanent exhibitions present the archaeology and the native peoples of Tennessee, ancient Egypt, traditional decorative arts and decorated ethnographic objects, the geology and fossil history of Tennessee, the emergence of humans with a focus on "Lucy" and other early hominid fossils, and the biology and human use of freshwater mussels.
