Affiliate Profile
Founded in 1984, the California African American Museum (CAAM) celebrates the history, art, and culture of African Americans with an emphasis on California and the western United States. In addition to presenting exhibitions and public programs, CAAM houses a permanent collection of more than four thousand works of art, artifacts, and historical documents; its publicly accessible research library contains more than twenty thousand volumes. As a Smithsonian Affiliate, it has collaborated with the Smithsonian Institution on a number of projects and hosted traveling exhibitions such as IndiVisible: African-Native American Lives in the Americas.
