The Buffalo Bill Center of the West is a flagship museum comprising the Buffalo Bill Museum, which spotlights the life and times of American icon William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody (1846–1917); the Whitney Western Art Museum; the Plains Indian Museum, and more, offering exhibitions as well as research and learning resources. The Draper Natural History Museum explores the vast Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and the Cody Firearms Museum displays 50 firearms on loan from the National Museum of American History. The Buffalo Bill Center of the West became a Smithsonian Affiliate in 2008.
