The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) collects, preserves, and provides access to the archival resources of the state, administers museums and historic sites, and oversees statewide programs concerning historic preservation programs. Museums managed by MDAH include the Eudora Welty House, Manship House Museum, and Old Capitol Museum. MDAH participated in the National Museum of American History's 2014 National Youth Summit on Freedom Summer, where students participated in a panel discussion about the 1964 youth-led effort to end the political disenfranchisement of African Americans and race-based inequity in education in Mississippi.
