The mission of the Japanese American National Museum is to promote understanding and appreciation of America’s ethnic and cultural diversity by sharing the Japanese American experience. It has been a Smithsonian partner for many years. Namely, the museum’s scholars contributed to A More Perfect Union: Japanese Americans and the U.S. Constitution, which opened in 1987 at the National Museum of American History. Since the museum became a Smithsonian Affiliate in 2000, it has continued to collaborate with the Institution, developing educational programming and hosting Smithsonian traveling exhibitions.
