The Bakken Museum is located in a historic mansion on Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis, and it is home to the Florence Bakken Medicinal Gardens. Its offerings focus on the history and nature of electricity and magnetism. It also explores Minnesota’s medical technology industry, maintaining a collection of historic medical instruments and scientific manuscripts. The museum has joined the Smithsonian Affiliations network since its participation in the Smithsonian Lemelson Center’s project Places of Invention. It plans to launch its own related exhibit, Inventing for Health: Minnesota’s Biomedical Revolution, in 2017.
