The Idaho Museum of Natural History holds and cares for over 500,000 natural and cultural objects. Situated on the campus of Idaho State University, it functions as Idaho’s official state museum of natural history. As a Smithsonian Affiliate, the IMNH has hosted Smithsonian traveling exhibitions—such as Water/Ways from 2016—and participated in Smithsonian magazine’s annual Museum Day Live! event. The museum has had a number of collaborations with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, including a project documenting bones of animals and birds as two-dimensional and three-dimensional images.
