Museum of Appalachia

Norris, Tennessee

http://www.museumofappalachia.org/

The Museum of Appalachia is home to a pioneer village and farm of over 30 log cabins and structures.  The 65-acre site also features traditional split rail fences, utility structures such as a blacksmith shop and a sawmill, gardens and pastures, and a working farm with live farm animals.  This living history museum was founded by John Rice Irwin, who had a profound respect for the region's tenacity character.  He started the collection by connecting with residents in rural Appalachia, visiting barns, smokehouses, and local auctions.  Today, the museum preserves Appalachian artifacts and its essential spirit of the past and presents the heritage and folklife of the Appalachian people.
