The Heard Museum partners with American Indian artists, tribal leaders, and elders to share stories and traditions through vibrant exhibitions and festivals. It has collaborated with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian on traveling exhibitions and has lent a number of artifacts to the Smithsonian for display. Sixteen artifacts from the National Museum of Natural History and the National Museum of the American Indian appeared in the Heard's 2012 exhibition, Beyond Geronimo: The Apache Experience.
