Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington, owned and maintained by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association - the oldest historic preservation organization in the United States - offers a broad interpretation of George Washington's life and of that time period in America. The new Fred Smith Library houses the historical documentation regarding the life of America's first president. The Museum has over thirty objects on long term loan from the National Museum of American History,and has recently featured one of George Washington's battle swords.
