The College Park Aviation Museum is located on the grounds of the world's oldest continuously operating airport, and is dedicated to telling the story of flight from the Wright Brothers to the present. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the airport was established in 1909. Today, its museum tells the stories of many "firsts" in aviation through exhibitions of unique aircraft and a replica of the Wright Brothers hangar that housed their first military airplane. The Museum displays several prominent artifacts from the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum collection, including the unique Berliner helicopter (the first to make a controlled flight in 1924), and the Wright Brothers' pocket watch. The Museum's programming regularly features traveling exhibitions and scholars from the Smithsonian.
