Museum Day Live! March 12, 2016

Inspiring Women and Girls of Color

Held during Women's History Month, this "special edition" of Smithsonian's signature "Museum Day Live!" event* will encourage all people, and particularly women and girls of color, to explore their nation's museums, cultural institutions, zoos, aquariums, parks and libraries - which will offer free admission for the day.

Register your museum.

Smithsonian Affiliates play a big role in inspiring women and girls of color in local communities. Below are some resources for Smithsonian Affiliates to use leading up to, and during, this special edition of Museum Day Live!

In addition, Smithsonian Affiliations has partnered with the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to create a funding opportunity for Affiliates who are either planning or have planned programs in partnership with "Museum Day Live!." If you are interested in learning more about this funding opportunity, please contact Smithsonian Affiliations National Outreach Manager, Alma Douglas, DouglasAR@si.edu.

Created as an independent federal agency in 1965, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has awarded more than $750 million in grants to museums in the past 50 years in support of more than 2,600 museum exhibitions.

NEH Engage and Inspire grants will allow Smithsonian Affiliates museums to apply for support for outreach, facilitation of travel logistics, and to provide exposure to museum staff and relevant programming for Museum Day Live! participants, with a special encouragement for women and girls of color, on March 12. The goals of Museum Day Live! are in support of NEH's mission to afford a humanities experience to all Americans.
