Smithsonian Outreach Resources

Smithsonian Affiliates benefit from a wide range of institutional resources. Affiliations' regional coordinators serve as liaisons to the Smithsonian for each Affiliate. For a list of Affiliate Coordinators, click here

Center for Folklife Programs and Cultural Heritage
The center joins scholarship, community service and educational outreach to promote the understanding and continuity of diverse contemporary grassroots cultures. The annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival showcases the center?s work each year on the national mall. Smithsonian Folkways Recordings produces award-winning educational and culturally significant music. For more information, click here

National Science Resources Center (NSRC)
The Smithsonian and the National Academy of Sciences jointly operate the National Science Resources Center. The NSRC collects and publishes information about current science teaching resources, develops innovative curriculum materials and sponsors outreach activities and leadership institutes to stimulate and support science education reform. Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program
The program works to increase the representation of Asian Pacific American cultures in Smithsonian programs, collections, exhibitions, research and staffing specific to the Asian Pacific American community. For more information, click here

The Smithsonian Associates
The Smithsonian Associates designs, coordinates and initiates programs that are tailored to meet the needs and interests of an organization or community including evening programming, seminars and the Smithsonian Voices of Discovery Program that brings Smithsonian scholars to communities across the country.

Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES)
SITES has been sharing the wealth of Smithsonian collections and research programs with millions of people outside Washington, D.C., for more than 50 years. SITES connects Americans to their cultural heritage through a wide range of exhibitions about art, science, and history, which are shown wherever people live, work, and play.

Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra
The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra was founded in 1990 by the National Museum of American History, Behring Center, to preserve the history of jazz by re-creating great performances of classic and contemporary jazz.

Smithsonian Latino Center
The Smithsonian Latino Center serves as a resource to Smithsonian museums in developing exhibits, programs and special events specific to the Latino community. For more information, click here

Smithsonian Museum Conservation Institute
This specialized unit is dedicated to research and education in the conservation, preservation, technical study, and analysis of museum collections and related materials. Outreach activities include consultations and development of web curricula, videos, publications, courses, workshops, preservation guidelines and exhibitions.
